Applying to the Fisher Pharm.D. Online Program

Application Requirements
To apply to the online pathway, applicants must submit or complete:
- An application through PharmCAS (Pharmacy College Application Service)
- Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions
- At least two letters of recommendation
- A recorded interview
To be considered for the program pathway, applicants must:
- Have completed 62 semester hours of pre-professional education at an accredited college or university. The prerequisite course requirements are outlined below.
- General Course Requirements
- English/Literature – 6 semester hours (one course must be English Writing/Composition)
- Speech – 3 semester hours (recommend Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communications)
- Economics – 3 semester hours
- Humanities and/or Social/Behavioral Sciences – 12 semester hours
- Science and Math Requirements
- Calculus – 3 semester hours
- Statistics – 3 semester hours
- General Chemistry – 8 semester hours with lab component
- Organic Chemistry – 8 semester hours with lab component
- Physics – 4 semester hours with lab component
- Biology – 12 semester hours with lab component
- General Course Requirements
The Wegmans School of Pharmacy at St. John Fisher University does consider students for transfer admission to both the campus pathway and online pathway of its Pharm.D. program. Transfer admission is granted on a case-by-case basis to transfer applicants who are in good academic standing at their current or previous college or school of pharmacy. The Wegmans School of Pharmacy prefers best earned grades of C or better in all prerequisite courses; applicants with grades of C- in prerequisite courses will be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis. Advanced Placement courses are not accepted for science courses; however, upper-division science courses may be accepted in lieu of courses in which AP credit was given.
An application may be submitted after the completion of 30 semester hours of college coursework; however, all pre-professional coursework must be completed prior to matriculation into the Wegmans School of Pharmacy.
Minimum GPA
Cumulative and science GPAs of 2.75 are considered minimally competitive. However, most students accepted to the program have performed at a much higher level.
Interview
All applicants must complete and submit a recorded interview via Kira Talent as part of the admissions process. Applicants are responsible for completing the interview independently and may do so on their own time. However, applications will not advance until the interview is complete.
Hereafter, the admissions committee will identify and invite the most qualified candidates to complete a 15-minute live Pharmacy Pre-requisite Discussion and Informational Interview with a faculty member or Fisher staff, via Zoom. Applicants will have the opportunity to ask any questions at this time.
Interview tips
- Present yourself professionally: dress appropriately, choose a clean and distraction-free background, and ensure your surroundings are quiet and well lit.
- Familiarize yourself with the Kira recording platform in advance so you’re comfortable navigating it on the day of your interview.
- Understand which actions can trigger technical issues or flags in Kira (such as refreshing your browser or looking off-camera to read notes), and avoid them.
- Prepare thoroughly by anticipating likely questions and practicing clear, well-structured responses ahead of time.
- Utilize the STAR Method: Prepare three to four stories using the Situation, Task, Action, and Result format to demonstrate leadership or conflict resolution.
- Prepare to discuss current events in the world of pharmacy, such as the role of AI in drug discovery or current legislative shifts in pharmacist provider status.
- Brush up on your knowledge of basic ethics, including fundamentals of patient autonomy, beneficence, and confidentiality (HIPAA).
Background Check
Accepted students will be subject to a criminal background check. The criminal background check must be completed prior to the start of classes, and students are responsible for the costs associated with having the background check completed.
International Applicants
Only applicants who are US Citizens, US Permanent Residents, or US Temporary Residents are eligible to apply for the online pathway and must be living within the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico for the entire duration of the program.
Non-native English speaking applicants with one of the above-listed citizenship types are required to submit TOEFL scores. The minimum accepted scores on the TOEFL are:
- 575 paper-based
- 233 computer-based
- 80 Internet-based
In addition to submitting TOEFL scores, international applicants will need to send transcripts from international institutions to World Education Services (WES) for a course-by-course evaluation.
